Meet the Practice Leader
Dajana Gibson, PE, RSP1, leads AIM’s Transportation Design team. According to Dajana, her journey at AIM has been one of growth and leadership. Starting as a project engineer, she has progressed to become the leader and group manager of AIM's Transportation Design Department. In this capacity, she oversees all aspects of our design group, playing a pivotal role in business development and managing the department's budget, personnel, and quality control. Despite being in a management role, she continues to serve as a technical advisor, leveraging her expertise to enhance the safety and functionality of all AIM projects.
As a leader, she prioritizes effective communication and organizational efficiency and believes in fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment where every team member's contribution is valued. Dajana’s commitment to open communication extends to our clients, ensuring that their needs and expectations are not only met but exceeded.
Transportation Design Projects
I-75 (SR93A) FROM WESTBOUND SR 60 ENTRANCE RAMP TO SOUTH OF CSX RR AT CR 574 IN HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FLORIDA FOR FDOT DISTRICT SEVEN
AIM led the design of the reconstruction of a two-lane ramp from WB SR 60 to NB I-75 with the addition of a new auxiliary lane for NB I-75 to the end of the project limits. The proposed I-75 auxiliary lane was accommodated by two independent bridges adjacent to Bridge Number 100471 over CSX Railroad and Bridge Number 100469 over Woodberry Road. Existing Bridges 100471 and 100469 were re-decked and the approach slabs were replaced as part of this project. Other improvements included drainage, permits, utilities, retaining walls, crash walls, noise analysis, ITS, signing, and pavement marking. The construction contract also included three additional “goes-with” interchange improvement projects for which AIM was the lead project.
KISMET PARKWAY AND LITTLETON ROAD REALIGNMENT AT NE 24TH AVENUE PD&E STUDY AND DESIGN IN LEE COUNTY, FLORIDA FOR LEE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
AIM prepared the preliminary engineering and environmental (PD&E) analysis for the widening of Littleton Road from the Kismet Parkway / NE 24th Avenue intersection to the US 41 intersection in Lee County. This project included the evaluation of alternatives for the realignment of Littleton Road from the offset Kismet Parkway / NE 24th Avenue intersection to Yellow Fever Creek and improvements to the existing T-intersection with Corbett Road, which was in a 90-degree curve. At the completion of the PD&E study, AIM conducted the design of the first segment of the corridor from west of the NE 24th Avenue intersection to Yellow Fever Creek. The proposed multi-modal improvements included new construction of a four-lane urban, divided road with 11-foot travel lanes, four-foot bicycle lanes, sidewalks, and a multilane roundabout at Corbett Road. The stormwater management design included an enclosed drainage system with ponds out-falling to Yellow Fever Creek. Permitting efforts with SFWMD and USACE were expedited for an abbreviated schedule to reach construction in one year. AIM’s design, survey, and mapping teams also supported the County with right-of-way acquisition concurrent with design and utility coordination efforts including coordination meetings and utility work schedules for relocation of overhead distribution lines and poles and multiple underground communication utilities.
SR 500 (US 441) FROM GRIFFIN ROAD TO DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BOULEVARD IN LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA FOR FDOT DISTRICT FIVE
AIM, as the prime consultant and engineer of record, led the design of safety and operation improvements along US 441 through Leesburg. The design achieves these improvements by removing an existing two-way left turn lane and constructing a raised median from Griffin Road to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The design accommodates left-turn access to side streets and properties at designated median openings along the corridor. The need for these improvements was identified by FDOT in an access management study completed in 2018. The new roadway cross section will continue to have three travel lanes in each direction and a raised median. AIM’s design also includes pavement resurfacing, sidewalk construction, mast arms for traffic signals, pedestrian crosswalk signals, median landscaping, new drainage structures, and lighting upgrades. The proposed improvements were presented at local agency meetings and a public hearing.
